Day 5 Getting easier...I actually discovered that heating up the raw spinach in the fry pan brings out a mellower, different flavor. And dang but if the cost of the heirloom tomatoes isn't worth it! The taste is amazing. Also, I have discovered that I actually do experience hunger pains...something I almost never experience. In reading the fuller month blogs I appreciated Jen's meltdown on (I think) day 17. That empty void that she allowed Jesus to fill. I love that prayer at this time....when this physical reaction occurs that it acts as a signal to remember to pray unceasingly. I was also amazed today how even the same food today really did satisfy....the egg white omelet with tomatoes and spinach--that I have eaten every morning for five days was tasty. Also found myself very interested in moving the 7 day fast into a new outlook on feeding my "temple." Simple healthy foods; kosher laws from Leviticus; looking out for more preservat...

So here it is... I jumped into The 7 Experiment last week, the intro anyway, as I prepped for leading our Monday night women at Bethlehem Lutheran Church--Twin Cities (BLC) this fall. Chosen primarily because one of the pastors asked if we had ever heard of/studied under Jen Hatmaker, Deb (my ministry partner) and I looked a bit at her available writings. I was drawn to 7 because of the chance to look at fasting as a spiritual discipline. We (the ministry team) are always trying to focus on discipling and discipleship, as the Lutheran denomination has really veered from raising up parishioners in their personal faith in favor of serving/doing. Now before you start freaking out, let me elaborate. Over the years of our ministry (a conservative estimate at 15+) we have really noticed that while so many of our church are busy "doing" literally all over the world, they have lost the "why."
