I find myself contemplating my service...as my sisters in Christ and I care for one of our own I am forced to really look at how I serve my neighbors.  I need to step out more...not just when I see them, but when I don't.  Not just when it is convenient, but when it's Inconvenient. And I need to continue on with the great commission...  As I serve others, do I really believe that my service is so infallible that they see Christ in me, when I don't even mention Him.  Yes, we are called to love our neighbor (and who IS that neighbor) but we are COMMANDED to make disciples.  THAT is the great commission.  So how do you make disciples if you don't tell people about Jesus after you love them?

So I was scanning over a friend's blog this morning and smirked that his last update was in Dec of '12.  and then I thought about it and realized so was mine... How similar is that to my walk in faith? Do I watch others with a smirk and critique without a glance at my own path?  Of course I do.  Pathetic.  My only encouragement is that apparently I am not alone.  So much so that Jesus commented on it.  That's part of the whole log in my eye, splinter in a brother's thing He's got going on in Matthew 7.  How often do I jump right to "being all judgey" as my teenager refers to it?  Ouch. However, maybe some times that's how God is getting my attention... Maybe there are times when He shows me something I need to work on by causing it to catch my eye elsewhere first.  I'm awfully good at getting really comfortable in my own shoes and not changing. The beginning of 7

So here it is... I jumped into The 7 Experiment last week, the intro anyway, as I prepped for leading our Monday night women at Bethlehem Lutheran Church--Twin Cities (BLC) this fall.  Chosen primarily because one of the pastors asked if we had ever heard of/studied under Jen Hatmaker, Deb (my ministry partner) and I looked a bit at her available writings.  I was drawn to 7 because of the chance to look at fasting as a spiritual discipline.  We (the ministry team) are always trying to focus on discipling and discipleship, as the Lutheran denomination has really veered from raising up parishioners in their personal faith in favor of serving/doing.  Now before you start freaking out, let me elaborate.  Over the years of our ministry (a conservative  estimate at 15+) we have really noticed that while so many of our church are busy "doing" literally all over the world, they have lost the "why."  In fact, many of them haven't any idea what the why is. ...
